Shekhar Babu Bachinepally is a professional mountaineer, guide, motivational speaker and adventure sports promoter based in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. He is very familiar for the most valuable jewel in his crown of achievements: Poorna Malovath, who is the youngest person to summit the Mt. Everest .
Shekhar was bitten by the bug of adventure during his college and was first introduced to rock climbing through his National Cadet Corps (NCC) course and there was no looking back ever since. He made use of the opportunities presented towards him and completed the Basic and Advanced Mountaineering Courses from The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (2002) and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (2002) respectively. After this, the call of the mountains was not too far away and in 2003 it started with Mt. Imja Tse or The Island peak (6189m).
As the years rolled on, so did his ascent of different peaks and with these, he laid the foundations for bigger plans: the 8000m ‘Death Zone’ peaks. And after not too long and definitely not without the struggle of sponsorships, mercy of Mother Nature, he finally stood on the ‘Roof of the World’, Mt. Everest (8848m) in 2007 and not only that, in the subsequent months of the same season, successfully summited two more 8000m peaks namely Mt. Cho-Oyu (8201m) & Mt. Shishapangma (8027m) and held the record for the First Indian to summit 3 ‘Death Zone’ peaks within a span of 4 months. For this rare feat, he was deservingly recognized by the Government of India and was awarded the ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award”. Not only this, various other awards have followed in recognition of his achievements both nationally and internationally.
When not climbing mountains, he is the Chief Instructor at the Rock Climbing School, Bhongir. Before which he had held various positions in the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh until 2013; after which he dedicated his time entirely for the development of adventure sports and activities in the country. Very soon his 12 years of experience in climbing the mountains would be put to great use, as he turned from a climber to a trainer. In the year 2012, he successfully guided the team ‘Sagarmatha Giryarohan Sanstha’ from the city of Pune, to the summit of Mt. Everest. In spite of this being his debut success as a trainer, there was a bigger challenge waiting for him: Poorna Malovath. For a girl hailing from a tribal community living in a remote village, her life revolved mostly around attending high school and playing in the fields. Just 8 months later, she stood on the summit of Mt. Everest, under Shekhar’s tutelage. This speaks volumes of his knowledge, skill and experience he has gained in his career.

Whether it’s a mountain or the most important goal in your life, you can’t get to the top of it in a single leap. You have got to do it one step at a time!”
